About Vanessa

 

Vanessa Alfano has proven herself as a talented journalist, news reporter, host, and television personality for the past ten years.  She began her career as  a voice over traffic reporter at a small local station, but her talent and drive quickly catapulted her into the number one market, New York City.


At WCBS-TV she expanded her repertoire of skills as she took on entertainment news, features, and travel reporting. She covered breaking news, including the blackout of 2003 and the MTA Transit Strike.  Vanessa was also a pivotal part of the “CBS 2 Crew,”  and viewers tuned in daily to enjoy the antics, personality,  and entertainment of the crew.


Recognizing her versatility and talent, Fox5 then parlayed Vanessa in the role of weather caster. Vanessa took on weather duties for Fox5 and their sister station My9 News. She also covered fashion, entertainment, lifestyles, and even sports features. Her personality and adaptability were evident no matter what she was covering. Vanessa has also worked on several independent projects. She hosted  and co-produced a pilot series on NY City that showcased some of the city’s best hot spots. Her vibrant personality, knowledge of the city, sharp writing, and editing skills were once again displayed.


Most recently, Vanessa started an online magazine geared towards NYC women. HealthyStyleNY.com has since become one of the fastest growing hyper-local websites geared towards the NYC gal. With it, Vanessa combined her knowlege of media and the local market with her passion for healthy living. Vanessa appears regularly on Better TV and local affiliates as a Lifestyle Expert for the brand. She also has regular appearances on Fox News and Fox Business Channel, where she speaks about small business and entrepreneurship.


Vanessa is a native Long Islander, and grew up in the small harbor side village of Poquott. She loves the beach, travel, and is an avid skier and snowboarder. She also loves to read, and is an accomplished writer with several literary journal and web publications to her credit. Vanessa graduated cum laude from Messiah College with a degree in English. She began her career life as a teacher, but after meeting a local reporter quickly found that her true calling was Television.
